Over the weekend, a throng of art enthusiasts paid a visit to the opening reception of Matt Gondek’s new “CONTROL” exhibition at Avenue des Arts in Los Angeles, California.
The centerpiece of the sprawling presentation is an eight-foot-tall statue called ‘Aggression’ that portrays the artist’s sinister interpretation of Warner Bros.’ Marvin the Martian. Accompanying the life-sized work is a number of paintings packed with the artist’s dissected cartoon characters inspired by ’The Simpsons,’ Walt Disney mascot Mickey Mouse, and ‘Winnie The Pooh’ to name a few. Altogether, Gondek continues to channel dark narratives in his vivid compositions while gleaning stylistic references from comic books and punk rock.
Tour the “CONTROL” exhibition above and then visit Avenue des Arts’ website to learn more. The show is open to the public until January 11, 2020.
